NO GODS NO MASTERS: MARKET COLLECTIVE

Not all markets are created equal, and Market Collective is the proof. It’s craft, it’s commerce, it’s community. It’s grown since its humble beginnings back in 2008 to become more of a mini, recurring festival—especially its holiday series which is on now at the BMO Centre. Expect vendors, entertainment, and experiences ranging from an elevated Santa photobooth to a Nerd-hosted roller rink. It’s got something for everyone, and that really is something.

Market Collective’s philosophy is simple yet profound: when artists support one another, everyone benefits. This ethos is why Steph and Everett, who took the reins in 2021, ensure every partnership reflects their values and commitment to community. “We’re all about getting people together to do cool shit,” says Steph. “Market Collective brings that personal interaction back to where you’re spending your money. And I think that’s incredibly important as we become more and more detached through online shopping and click and collect,” adds Everett. In a world leaning towards arm’s-length automation, it’s important to offer and seek out opportunities for authentic, personal interactions—currency for goods and smiles for nods alike.

With low ticket fees and no cuts taken from vendor revenues, it’s a model designed to empower and inspire. Every dollar spent here goes directly back to the creators, fostering an environment where side hustles can grow into viable businesses. Market Collective is a thriving community hub where creativity reigns, and everyone is invited to join in the celebration—a celebration that, in this case, includes a choir, the opportunity to make your own clay ornaments, and a bunch of other fun and festive workshops. So, join us, won’t you?
